360 USA
360 USA
Smouldering volcanic vents on Hawaii, lusciously green swamp areas where alligators lurk, fiery red rock sculptures in the extraordinary landscapes of the South West - 360 USA presents you with unrivalled spectacles. At the same time, the country also boasts pulsating metropolises, manorial plantations, and small towns where you can still find the traces of the founding fathers. The United States is a country full of contrasts - devoid of, or throbbing with, human life, barren or exuberantly lush, urbane or savage, but always unique!

Abandoned Places
Abandoned Places
Ghost towns, empty streets, crumbling ruins and lost empires this book reveals these and other deserted places. Many places featured were once populated and now sit unoccupied, modern day ruins, sitting in decay.

Stories, facts and photographs of 60 beautiful and eerie abandoned places from throughout the world. Time has stopped and nature is taking resident in these places mainly due to natural disasters, war or economic reasons.

Places include:

* Severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina, Six Flags Jazzland has been abandoned since. Several of the rides still stand, a testimony to the resilience of New Orleans.

* Shicheng in China has been under water for 53 years since the Xin'an River Hydro Plant flooded the area. The city was founded 1,300 years ago.

* Chernobyl was totally abandoned after the nearby nuclear disaster in 1986. Due to radiation, it has been left untouched ever since the incident and will be for many thousands of years into the future. Nature now rules the city in what resembles an apocalyptic movie.

* Poveglia is an island in the Venetian Lagoon which under the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte became a dumping ground for plague victims and later an asylum for the mentally ill.

* Plymouth was the capital of the island of Montserrat. The town was overwhelmed by volcanic eruptions starting in 1995 and was abandoned.

* St Kilda a remote Scottish Island may have been permanently inhabited for at least two millennia, the population probably never exceeding 180. The entire population was evacuated in 1930.

Alex Webb La Calle Photographs from Mexico
Alex Webb La Calle Photographs from Mexico
La Calle brings together more than thirty years of photography from the streets of Mexico by Alex Webb, spanning 1975 to 2007. Whether in black and white or color, Webb's richly layered and complex compositions touch on multiple genres. As Geoff Dyer writes, "Wherever he goes, Webb always ends up in a Bermuda-shaped triangle where the distinctions between photojournalism, documentary, and art blur and disappear." Webb's ability to distill gesture, light, and cultural tensions into single, beguiling frames results in evocative images that convey a sense of mystery, irony, and humor. Following an initial trip in the mid-1970s, Webb returned frequently to Mexico, working intensely on the U.S.-Mexico border and into southern Mexico throughout the 1980s and '90s, inspired by what poet Octavio Paz calls "Mexicanism-delight in decorations, carelessness and pomp, negligence, passion, and reserve." La Calle presents a commemoration of the Mexican street as a sociopolitical bellwether-albeit one that has undergone significant transformation since Webb's first trips to the country.
Newly commissioned pieces from noted Mexican and Mexican American authors lend further insight into the roles the streets have played for generations: part arterial network, part historical palimpsest, and part absurdist theater of the everyday.

Anne Brigman
Anne Brigman
Accompanying a major retrospective exhibition, this is the first comprehensive book to chronicle the photography of Anne W. Brigman (1869-1950), one of the most important of all American women photographers. Brigman is best known for her works taken between 1900 and 1920, depicting female nudes dramatically situated in natural, outdoor landscapes. With the advent of the Sierra Club in the early 20th century, Brigman explored the remote and rugged terrain of the Sierra Nevada with an intrepid spirit, where she often staged nude photographs of herself and her friends among the gnarled trees and rocky terrain - her work was radical for its time. Brigman's significance spanned both coasts: in northern California, where she lived, she was known as a poet, a critic, and a practitioner of Pictorialist photography - a movement that employed various methods of manipulation to achieve images that were considered beautiful and romantic; on the east coast, her work was promoted by Alfred Stieglitz with whom she corresponded for many years. Stieglitz published her work in Camera Work and elected her as a Fellow of the prestigious Photo-Secession.

Another Day In The Life
Another Day In The Life
'This is a way of putting my life out there, because if I were to write a memoir, there'd be five volumes before I got to The Beatles. So I'm going at it this way, through photographs and quotes. And this is, I feel, a better way for me to do it.' - Ringo Starr

Another Day In The Life is introduced and narrated by Ringo Starr, with forewords by legendary movie director David Lynch and rock photographer Henry Diltz. Ringo shows us the world as seen through a Starr's eyes, in more than 500 observational photographs and rare images from the archives, and an original text of nearly 13,000 words.

From Los Angeles to Tokyo and everywhere in between, Ringo's photographs celebrate his life in music and offer a glimpse behind the scenes. Many are taken during historic events, such as Ringo's acceptance of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and his return to New York's Plaza Hotel, 50 years after The Beatles first visited the USA.

Autophoto
Autophoto
An exploration of photography's longstanding and generative relationship to the automobile. Since its invention, the automobile has reshaped our landscape, extended our geographic horizons and radically altered our conception of space and time, influencing the practice of photographers worldwide. This book shows how the car provided photographers with new subject matter and a new way of exploring the world. It brings together 500 works made by 100 historical and contemporary artists from around the world. Capturing formal qualities such as the geometric design of roadways or reflections in a rear-view mirror, these photographers invite us to look at the world of the automobile in a new way. Auto-Photo also includes other projects such as a series of car models that cast a fresh eye on the history of automobile design, created specifically for the Fondation Cartier show by French artist Alain Bublex, plus a comparative history of automobile design and photography, essays by scholars and quotes by participating artists.
Featuring the works of both historical and contemporary figures such as Jacques- Henri Lartigue, Man Ray, Lee Friedlander and Jacqueline Hassink, the exhibition will show how photographers have continuously documented the impact of automobility on our landscape and lifestyle, and how in turn the automobile has reshaped the practice of photographers, providing them with a new subject, a new means of expression and a new way of seeing the world.
