Artists Way at Work Riding the Dragon
After the publication of the bestselling book The Artists' Way, Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan, co-creators of the country's most successful course on creativity, were often told that their techniques helped people achieve their business goals. This spurred them to refine the methods to help people perform more creatively and effectively at work. The Artists' Way at Work will help you excel in your job, launch the business of your dreams, or find the career you love. Best of all, you will learn to "live in the paradox" -- to develop a personal philosophy of excellence that sustains you, whatever the future holds. The processes in this book are rooted in cutting-edge principles of human development, organizational behavior, and the arts. Artwork
Artwork
Peter Campbell was the resident designer and art critic for the London Review of Books. He worked for the magazine from its first appearance in 1979 and wrote more than 300 pieces, mainly about art but also about such things as escalators, weeds, bicycles, bridges and hearts. Each fortnight from 1996 onwards, Peter created a cover illustration for the LRB, coming up with a seemingly infinite array of unpredictable images: a yacht and a starfish, a tram, two knickerbocker glories, a game of dominoes, a man walking past a lighted window at night. The immediate freshness, colour, playfulness and surprise of these covers belied their technical skill, erudition and command of detail and artistic reference. Peter Campbell designed and edited BBC books by Kenneth Clark, Jacob Bronowski and David Attenborough. He worked often with Quentin Blake and wrote the introduction to Blake's The Life of Birds. He worked, too, on several books by his fellow LRB contributor Alan Bennett. He described the LRB job as perfect for him and his 'absurd good fortune'. It allowed his talent and years of expertise to come together. Artwork is a collection of Peter's finest works over the years.

Balthus
Balthus
This striking new book depicts the career-spanning paintings, drawings, and photographs that were part of Gagosian Gallery's 2015 Balthus exhibition in Paris. It will find an enthusiastic readership in both fans of the artist's work, as well as admirers of 20th Century art more generally. Balthus was a reclusive painter of charged and disquieting narrative scenes, whose inspirations reach back to the early Renaissance, though with a subversive modern twist. Casting viewers as voyeurs of pubescent female subjects brooding with uneasy dreams, he scandalized Parisian audiences with his first gallery exhibition in 1934. In his interior portraits, street scenes, and landscapes of the next seventy years, Balthus cultivated a self-taught classicism as a framework for more enigmatic artistic investigations that is beautifully depicted within the pages of this new volume.Documents the first exhibition of Balthus' work in Paris since the 1983-84 retrospective at the Centre Georges Pompidou.

Bare Life Bacon Freud Hockney & Others
Bare Life Bacon Freud Hockney & Others
In the mid-twentieth century, a pioneering group of painters began pursuing new directions in figurative art, investing representations of the human body with unprecedented expressiveness and depth. Among these painters who sought to more accurately capture the truth of human existence were the School of London artists, including Francis Bacon, Frank Auerbach, David Hockney, Leon Kossoff, and Lucian Freud, but the tradition also extended beyond this core group of painters to include a larger circle of artists across postwar Britain. With a focus on studies of the human body, "Bar Life" illuminates the themes that characterize the movement, placing more than one hundred representative artworks in context with drawings, documents, and photographs that demonstrate important influences. Throughout, the book explores constantly changing processes, as well as the connectionsboth personal and professionalamong many of the artists, as well as with other well-known artists and protagonists of the period, from Marcel Duchamp and Alberto Giacometti to Chaim Soutine and Willem de Kooning. Presenting more than one hundred works from this powerfully expressive period, "Bare Life "explores an important chapter of postwar art that has until now been relatively neglected."
