Aesops Kiwi Fables
Aesops Kiwi Fables
In this collection, newly painted for this book, Ray Ching's drawing and painting skills, familiar to New Zealanders through his widely seen paintings of birds, are imaginatively engaged in an altogether new expression of Aesop's Fables. The stories have left their origins in Greece and ancient Europe and set off to the distant isles of New Zealand. Now, the tales are told by the inhabitants of these islands, mostly birds, who take the place of the more traditional players - Tui are as smart as Crows, and Tuatara is as dogged as the Tortoise, to successfully win his race over Possum. An introduction by Richard Wolfe gives an insight into the work and art of Ray Ching and a brief history of Aesop's fables in publication.

Alice Neel
Alice Neel
One of the foremost American figurative painters of the twentieth century, it is not surprising that Alice Neel was a humanist-she was fascinated by people.

Known for her daringly honest portraits, Neel loved to paint people in all their complexities-to penetrate and reveal their fears and anxieties, how they display defiance and survival. She also loved to paint the unadorned human figure. Her nudes, in particular, explore the body with frankness while celebrating the individuality of each of her subjects, and they exemplify the freedom and courage with which she approached her work and her life.

Through her paintings and works on paper, Neel was able to free herself from the expected inhibitions and crippling taboos that were placed on women and focus on the beauty and nuanced complexity of flesh and the human body. In their mastery of form, color, and implied social commentary, her nudes are as relevant today as when they were painted.

Alice Neel documents the solo exhibition of the artist's work at David Zwirner in New York in 2019. Including works that span the 1920s to the 1980s, this presentation focuses primarily on the nude figure- whether male or female, adult or child-and demonstrates how Neel rebelled against and challenged the traditional perceptions of sexuality, motherhood, and beauty in our society. The catalogue includes newly commissioned scholarship by Helen Molesworth and a foreword by Ginny Neel of The Estate of Alice Neel.

Alternative Sports Olympics
Alternative Sports Olympics
I've never been any good at sport. I just liked the idea of adapting Olympic events to everyday life -so if you're throwing something, it's the luggage.

In recent years I have found myself working increasingly in sequences of drawings which explore subjects and techniques which interest me.

These sequences are the origins of the QB Papers; they vary in approach and tone, and between reality and fantasy. But I hope that in each of them in its own way will appeal to anyone who likes looking at drawings.' - Quentin Blake

Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol
A hardback edition of the popular MoMA Artist Series, with larger reproductions of ten classic Warhol artworks. Through his art, ideas, and style, Andy Warhol made an indelible mark on the history of modern art and on popular culture. This book features ten paintings by Warhol selected from The Museum of Modern Art's collection of his work. His famous Gold Marilyn Monroe and Campbell's Soup Cans are here, along with other equally groundbreaking and iconic silkscreen paintings - from his early work of 1961 to The Last Supper, a painting in progress at the time of his death, in 1987. An insightful essay by Carolyn Lanchner, a former curator of painting and sculpture at the Museum, accompanies each work, illuminating its significance and placing it in its historical moment in the development of modern art and in the artist's own life.

Art & Queer Culture
Art & Queer Culture
A revised, updated edition of the acclaimed historical overview of Queer art - available for the first time in paperback

Updated and revised, Art & Queer Culture is a comprehensive and definitive survey of artworks that have constructed, contested, or otherwise responded to alternative forms of sexuality. Rather than focusing exclusively on artists who self-identify as gay or lesbian, Art & Queer Culture instead traces the shifting possibilities and constraints of sexual identity that have provided visual artists with a rich creative resource over the last 130 years - and it does so in an accessible, authoritative voice, and with a wealth of rarely-seen imagery.

Art Making with MoMA: 20 Activities for Kids Inspired by Artists
Art Making with MoMA: 20 Activities for Kids Inspired by Artists
Art Making with MoMA , from educators at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, presents twenty interactive activities that invite kids (and adults!) to discover the materials and techniques of modern and contemporary artists. Drawing on over eighteen years of research and experience engaging families through programmes, installations and resources at the Museum, this colourful activity book is filled with clear instructions, thought-provoking prompts and reproductions of works in MoMA's collection. Art Making with MoMA encourages personal expression and creative exploration by incorporating materials similar to, and inspired by, those used by artists.

Each project is inspired by a particular artist, movement or design concept, including Cindy Sherman, Romare Bearden, Alexander Calder, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Charles and Ray Eames. In addition to illustrated step-by-step instructions, tips and open-ended questions encourage kids to tap into their own ideas and experiences as they explore new and established techniques for making art. With a range of activities that can be done alone or in a group, many of them with materials scavenged from around the house, this book will inspire hours of tinkering, designing, constructing, creating and discussion.
